Bob Ide was raised in Scranton and continues to live there with his wife ,Susan and two children. A graduate of the former Scranton Central High School he attended Marywood University where he is a current member of the alumnae board. Bob worked at WYOU TV for 10 years in numerous capacities including a Sports Reporter and Videographer. He moved on to Anchor and Report sports at Blue Ridge Cable Eyewatch news for two years. Before joining Fox 56 TV in 2003 he did freelance work for J2K Productions as well as other production work in the area.
An avid sports and outdoor recreation fan Bob quickly moved into capacity as Host and Producer of The Great Outdoors show. As the show has grown so has Bob who has been hunting, fishing, hand gliding, atv riding, wakeboarding and wave running to name a few of the fun parts of his job. In 2007 Bob’s duties expanded to the Sports Producer/Host for WQMY-TV where he has done numerous high school and college football and basketball games for My Network TV. In his spare time Bob spends time in the outdoors with his kids and follows Notre Dame and Philadelphia Eagles football.
Reporter Val Geist produces adventure sports, fitness and health topics for The Great Outdoors. Val’s athletic career includes a second place finish at the 2007 USA Cycling Mountain Bike National Championships. She has competed in freestyle and moguls skiing and skied at the 1993 World Extreme Skiing Championships in Alaska. She continues to explore Big Mountains, producing segments for The Great Outdoors at ski destinations like Telluride, Colorado and Park City, Utah.
Val has also competed in the equestrian sport of Dressage. She has imported and trained European horses, competing and coaching riders at the highest levels of International (FEI) competition, and she owns a 50-acre horse farm in Wyoming County. She enjoys fly fishing, camping, hiking, classical dance, and she is learning to kayak. A gourmet cook who utilizes only natural and organic ingredients, Val has extensively studied nutrition and food science.
Val is an alumnae of Wyoming Seminary. She studied chemistry and biology at Temple University and has worked as a newspaper reporter, magazine writer, and recently, a sales and marketing executive for a wireless Broadband company she co-founded based in the Washington, D.C. area. A Harveys Lake resident, Val maintains a public and media relations consulting business.
